Expectations, Excellence and Peace of Mind

Today I just finally finished book that was very influential book to me.  It’s  called Wooden: A Lifetime of Observations and Reflections On and Off the Court by John Wooden.

The philosophy of John Wooden has always been very close to my heart. I think first time in around 2012 or so I had seen his TED talk and I had absorbed many ideas from there. However, now for a fear years I had kind of forgotten about it and I never quite thought that he had written books. Until two weeks ago, I got a list of book recommendations where I spotted this particular book and immediately I went to buy it and read it as well.

Now I’ve been contemplating some of these thoughts for days, and there are particular thoughts that happen to hit me very deeply, they’ve to do with the expectation management, peace of mind and excellence -themes that are very dear to me. I hope you enjoy this short poem dedicated John Wooden:

Your mind shall find the rest,

If you give out very best.

Let your own expectations should be your judge,

To expectations of others, do not budge.

Your expectations are your sole goal,

To achieve, that work with your whole soul.
